Introduction
 
Archbishop Thomas J. Murphy High School is a co-educational Catholic college-preparatory school located in Everett, Washington. Founded as Holy Cross High School in 1988, Archbishop Murphy High School serves students grades nine through twelve and enrollment has increased from 23 students in 1988 to approximately 540 for Fall 2010. Here at Archbishop Murphy High School we take seriously our school's mission:
 
Archbishop Thomas J. Murphy High School is a Catholic, college preparatory school that welcomes students of all faiths. True to the spirit of the Gospel, Archbishop Murphy nurtures the full development of the gifts that God has given to each student, fosters service as an outgrowth of faith, and values diversity. Working with parents as partners in this educational ministry, we strive for academic excellence, spiritual enrichment, and Christlike leadership for the transformation of the world.

Academic Excellence - Class of 2010 Highlights

  • The average cumulative grade point for all four years was 3.497.

  • 67% of the class took Advanced Placement and/or other courses that generated college credit while at AMHS.

  • 131 graduates were offered merit scholarships and awards totaling over $10.2 million.

  • 76% of the class graduated with Academic Honors (cumulative GPA higher than 3.2).

  • Three graduates were recognized as National Merit Commended students.

  • The class achieved an average SAT score of 1125 (includes verbal and math scores only).

  • 100% of the Class of 2010 will be pursuing post-secondary education. 89% are going on to four year universities. 23% will attend a Catholic university.

     Other areas of achievement:

  • Over 19,000 hours of service were provided to over 100 organizations in our community.

  • This class organized and led the AMHS community in raising over $25,010 for Operation Rice Bowl in 2010.

  • 2009-2010 athletic teams won six league championships, five district championships, two state championships, and three teams placed within the top four at state competitions.

  • AMHS was the winner of the 2009-2010 WIAA 2A Scholastic Cup, including four 2009-2010 WIAA 2A State Academic Champions (Girls’ Swimming, Choir, Softball and Boys’ Golf).

Requirements for Graduation

Academic Information

The course of study at Archbishop Murphy High School (AMHS) is designed to prepare students to enter a college or university. Within this college preparatory framework, we seek to direct students to courses that will consistently challenge their capacity and potential. Every student at AMHS is given ample opportunity to meet and explore challenges of the learning process.
 

Credits and Grading

A total of 24 credits are required to graduate from Archbishop Murphy High School. Students take six classes each semester. Class periods are 50-55 minutes in length. Academic credits are assigned each semester for each course in which a passing grade is earned. A passing grade in a yearlong course earns one credit, while passing a semester long course generates one-half credit.
